The Alternative Learning Centre (ALC) Ministry provides holistic and inclusive education for children and young people who require additional learning support. Guided by Christian values and the mission of the Anglican Church, the ministry seeks to nurture each learner with dignity, compassion, and respect.

Senior Citizens Ministry honors and supports older adults by fostering spiritual growth, fellowship, and purposeful living through prayer, teaching, and community engagement.

Hostel Ministry provides a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for residents, fostering community, spiritual growth, and personal development through care, guidance, and fellowship.

INTERCESSOR

Intercessor Ministry is dedicated to standing in prayer on behalf of others, seeking God’s guidance, protection, and blessings for the church, community, and the world.

ELTON CAFE

Elton Cafe Ministry is a welcoming space where people can connect, build community, and experience fellowship in a relaxed, friendly environment, while growing in faith and service.

PRAYER AND COUNSELLING

Counseling Ministry provides spiritual guidance, emotional support, and practical help to individuals and families, helping them navigate life’s challenges with faith, hope, and healing.

ELTON RESOURCE CENTRE

Resource Centre Ministry offers educational materials, spiritual resources, and guidance to support personal growth, learning, and ministry development within the church community.

VISITATION

Visitation Ministry reaches out to members, the sick, elderly, and those in need, offering encouragement, prayer, and support to strengthen faith and foster a sense of community.

OUTREACH MINISTRY

Outreach Ministry serves the community by sharing God’s love through evangelism, service, and practical support, meeting spiritual, emotional, and physical needs.

Worship Ministry

“Making Worship for and about Christ only” Worship Ministry is made up of musicians, singers, tambourines and flag. The Worship team focused the ministry for Sunday church service every week. In addition, the worship team is also responsible for supporting various activities such as prayer meetings and church revival meeting. The church to experience the power and presence of God in worship train, teach and disciple the church in music, vocal, dance for service. Youth Ministry

“Rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” – Colossians 2:7 The mission of St Michael Youth Ministry is to create an environment where youth are experiencing Christ and consistently connecting with others. The ministry aim to train, encourage and reaching out the youth in church and the whole city of Sandakan. There are seven youth cell held weekly and once a month they will come together for fellowship in the church for the BM Zone, whereas Eng/Chi Zone is having their youth ministry every Saturday at 7:30pm-9:30pm at the Conference room. The Boys’ Brigade

The advancement of Christ’s Kingdom among members and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-Respect and all that tends towards a true Christian Manliness. Helping members to develop and grow in Christian character by training to become loyal and responsible citizens and also to promote physical fitness and develop leadership potential. Activity The Awards Scheme is designed to develop members’ interest in worthwhile activities and at the same time develop their all round personality. It gives the company the opportunity of presenting an attractive and progressive programme of activities so that membership of the brigade may be both enjoyable and beneficial. Children Ministry

“To become a generation who worship in spirit and truth, serve as a witness to family and friends and to grow spiritually” The BM children cell started in 1982 with only 10 children, and thereafter in 1986 the ministry expanded to Mile 14, Sepilok with 25 children. In 1988 the ministry again expand to Mile 2 ½ and attended by 15 children. Whereas in St. Michael Church, the children attendance is 30. Then the ministry was change to ‘Talmidim Kecil’ in 2009-2011. The ministry then has led to an opening of a new ministry which is cell group by visiting church members house according to their area. ‘Talmidim Kecil’ also having their ministry on Sunday. The ministry was started because of the need to reach children which whom cannot attend Saturday fellowship. Finally, in 2012, ‘Talmidim Kecil’ was changed to BM Children Cell by combining all the cell group into one cell, and the ministry time was change to every Saturday at 2pm. A total of 80 children attend this cell to date. The ministry aim to teach children by helping them to develop a godly character, to expose them to the bible teaching, helping them to pray and to become the followers of Christ. Choir

“To be a faithful and humble servant” Choir ministry supported church services especially in English and Chinese zone in order to prepare the heart of congregation to worship God. They mainly sing hymns and will have their choir practice every Friday at 7:45pm. They serve with obedience and every members help and uphold each other in unity. Sometimes they assist in wedding occasion, house-warming and many others when requested. They also celebrate birthdays for choir members as their monthly activities. Contact Person: Lu Tung Lan & Ps. Counselling

“But the crowds learned about it and followed him. He welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who needed healing.” – Luke 9:11 Pastors and counselors are available to minister and to comfort those who seek direction of God. Offer guidance according to the biblical advice in helping them to re-align their spiritual need. Counselling ministry is to bring Jesus light in the lives of people by setting people free from being bound and to see their lives transformed and to bring salvation and understood the truth of God. Elton Cafe

Intercessor

‘To raise & build up a strong & committed prayer warriors’ The Prayer and Intercessory ministry is for members who have a heart to seek the Lord in prayer and the burden to pray for people and circumstances both within and outside the church. The church initiated the 24/7 prayer chains at Faith Room where cell groups from Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese and English take turns to pray. Apart from that, the church will have common weekly prayer on Wednesday at 8:00am at the church and 7:30pm (BM at the Conference Room and Eng/Chi at the Common Room) and Saturday at 7:30am followed by monthly Combine Prayer Meeting held on the last Wednesday of every month at the Elton Hall. Hostel

St. Michael’s Church Hostel The Hostel provides quality education for students from remote Kadazandusun villages in the interior of Sabah staying at St. Michael’s Hostel in Sandakan, Sabah. It is aim to prepare young people to serve the church, community and country, as committed Christians; following a programme that emphasizes their mental, physical, social and spiritual development. They learn to maximise their leadership potential and acquire the necessary skills to improve life in their villages. There are currently 15 girls staying at the St. Michael’s Hostel. All come from families of very poor background. The girls, all students at St. Michael’s Secondary School, participate in an education programme that includes academic studies, extra-curricular, activities, sports and games. They are members of the English Church Choir and they participate in other activities in the church, such as Dance and Youth Ministry. The St. Michael’s Hostel is managed by Board of Management with the Rector of St. Michael’s Church as Chairman. The budget for maintaining and educating each student in under RM3000 per annum. As this hostel is entirely funded by the church and Sandakan Memorial Scholarship Trust (SMST), we welcome contribution from the public, through SMST. Contact: Miss Shirley Shim

Men’s Ministry

Persatuan Kaum Lelaki Persatuan Kaum Lelaki is open to all adult male who is not involved in youth cell. It is to encourage men to be more involved in church events by supporting church ministries. Promoting faithfulness in cell group activities and reaching out and encourage men to be active in the church ministry. Activity Fellowship and recreation among members. Contact: Julni Jumpi

Outreach

Seguntor Welfare School This welfare ministry was started by Korean missionary at the year 2000, and was later handed over to Anglican Diocese in 2006. The ministry help children by giving them the opportunity to attend school and to get their learning especially for those that cannot go to the government school or afford to go to a private school. The school consist of 8 classes; 2 reserved for pre-schooled & 6 classes for primary 1 – 6. The school runs activities such as Sports Day, School Camping, Teachers’ Day, National Day Celebration, and weekly program for Christian children known as the Superkids which held every Wednesday at 11:00am. School Ministry

Resource Centre

Elton Resource Centre is a bookstore selling Christian spiritual books, stationary, and gifts. The Resource Centre serve the church and community by supporting mission works and encourage reading culture. It is also the information counter for those who wished to visit the church for sightseeing. Elton Resource is open from Monday – Saturday from 8:00am – 4:30pm, Sunday from 8:00am – 4:00pm but closed on Tuesday and Public Holiday. Contact Person: Yap Mui Ting/ Hai Len Matiwong

Senior Citizen

The Senior Citizen group was formed in about 1991 by the late Mr. Fong Chen Thau when Rev. Koo Tuk Su was Rector. The attendance was only a few senior couples. It was later handed over to Ps. Sim. The weekly gathering was in the Common Room and the attendance was about 20 persons. After Ps. Sim’s transferred to Kota Kinabalu, Ps. Man Kok Kee took over the ministry. A senior citizen committee was immediately formed until today after the resignation of Ps. Man’s. The seniors visited churches in Kota Kinabalu, Labuan, Ranau and Lahad Datu. In 2006 attended the Diocesan Senior Retreat in Kudat led by Ps. Margaret Chong. The committee had in earlier years organised 2 trips to Kundasang for retreat led by Ps. Sim and Rev. Green. There were many places of interests were visited in Sandakan areas in the past year. The present weekly attendance is about 40 – 50 persons. The ministry is held every Friday at 9:00am. They will learn the Word of God, ‘spiritual exercise’, celebrate Christmas and Chinese New Year, birthday celebration for every 3 months. Visitation

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed,” – Luke 4:18 Reaching out to those who are unable to go to church because of physical or mental disability. Visitation is a mean to show care and concern of their welfare especially family who are not doing well and helping them stay connected to Christ and bringing prayer to their home. Visitation ministry is to glorify God’s name by seeing transformation of people and family. Activity Visit homes and hospitals. Small Groups

“But select capable men from all the people– men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain– and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.” – Exodus 18:21 Small group or Cell group of the church is to encourage church members to attend a cell group where they can have community and study. Small groups provide the church with unique opportunities to build relationships where everyone can hold one another accountable, pray for one another, challenge one another, and support one another. Every small group is expected to go over the week’s sermon and dig deeper into study and application. The missional small group model promotes a culture of missions and service. Each missional team typically focuses on one area, like reaching singles or ministering to people in a geographical area. We encourage every church member to belong in any of the church cell groups, if you want to be connected to any of our church cell groups, simply call the church office.

Women Ministry

Sister’s Fellowship (Eng/Chi) The fellowship was formed around 1970 under the name of ‘Women fellowship of St. Michael’s Church’. In the year 2005, it was renamed to ‘St. Michael’s Church Sisters’ Fellowship’. The ministry is held every 1st Saturday of the month. The ministry consist of praise and worship, bible teaching, prayer, outing, health talk and assist the church in flower arrangement. Its purpose is to build up godly women, where women have their fellowship in order to help and uphold each other in Christ. Contact Person: Lilian Lim & Alice Wong
